Part M

To comply with modern construction policy or Part M Building Regulations an opaque or coloured film must be applied to glazed screens and glass doors – a health and safety feature to prevent the obvious!….ouch!!

This film, or manifestations as they are called in business, can be a plain and simple line of spots or squares – you’ve most probably seen them before or they can be major part of the overall interior design concept, reflecting your brand identity or even a decorative frieze capturing graphic design at it best.

In regulation speak they are described like this:

“People with visual impairment should be in no doubt as to the location of glass doors especially when they are within a glazed screen. The choice of different style of manifestation for the door and the glazed screen can help to differentiate between them. Glass doors and glazed screens will satisfy Requirement M1 or M2 if they are clearly defined with manifestation on the glass at two levels, 850 to 1000mm and 1400 to 1600mm, contrasting visually with the background seen through the glass (both from inside and outside) in all lighting conditions.”
